How To Use A Suction Cup Dildo

Whether you’re bracing yourself for a XL dildo that needs steadying, or planning for a particularly rigorous fucking, suction cup dildos are your friend. Most of our Twisted Beast dildos come with a removable vac-u-lock suction cup, but other toys out there may have one built in. Either way, they all work the same - so let's take a look at how to make these work better if you’re struggling.

How do suction cup dildos work?

Time for a small science lesson! Suction cups work in three steps:

  1. Pressing down - by pressing down on both your dildo and the attached suction cup, you force the air out, resulting in a vacuum.
  2. Sealing - A seal is created by the cup that stops air from rushing back into the vacuum.
  3. Sticking - The difference in pressure between the vacuum inside the cup and the free air in the environment outside creates the suction that keeps your dildo in place!

The key thing here though is the pressing down. Make sure you give your dildo a good push to really force that air out, otherwise the suction cup can’t do its job.

Choosing the right surface

A couple of things to consider when picking your surface of choice. Wipe down the surface before placing the toy down. You want to remove as much dust as possible that could interfere with creating the seal.

In a similar manner, you want a smooth surface. A rough, textured surface, like a plastered wall,  is going to make creating a seal even harder. Bathroom tiles, on the other hand, are perfect for this and will create a strong seal while you ride your toy.

Do suction cups work better when wet or dry?

If struggling (or wanting a rougher fuck) with your suction cupped toy, wetting the edges can certainly help.

If you imagine an ideal scenario, when you press down on your dildo to create a vacuum seal, the only two things touching are the suction cup and the surface you’re attaching it to and a perfect airtight seal is created. In reality, no matter how hard you clean, there will be numerous microscopic pieces of dust and other particles in-between the toy and the surface, making this vacuum less than perfect.

When you add water into the mix, this acts as a form of binding agent and closes these tiny gaps created by the dust. Not only that, but water also just sticks to surfaces better than air, resulting in a seal that is altogether stronger.

An extra tip is to use warm water. Cold water will make your toy more rigid and less flexible when forming the seal. A warmed up suction cup will more easily mould around imperfections and bumps in a surface to create a better seal.

A warning on shower sex

While the shower is as perfectly good a place to use your suction cup dildo as anywhere else, there are a couple of things to be wary of.

First of all - say no to shower doors. Walls, perfectly fine, but glass shower doors were not built to withstand you hammering down on your Marchosias. Given the above about toys working better when wet, shower walls are actually ideal.

Second of all, use the right lube. Water-based lube will wash off very easily in a shower environment. Xlube or silicone-based lube are the way to go. If you’re curious about this, we have a whole guide on what lube to use with silicone sex toys!

Using your suction cup dildo as a strap-on pegging toy

You may not have realised, but suction cups dildos are surprisingly versatile. The cup at the end allows you to combine your toy with an appropriate harness to peg away at your partner. While this works wonders for women, and trans-men, you can also use this method while locked. No need to uncage your dick to fuck boys!

Simply attach the right sized O-ring that slides over your toy and sits snug between the suction cup and the dildo, then you’re good to go!

And there’s your crash course on suction cups! Go forth, use your walls and wardrobes and wreck your ass without worrying that your toy will fall down mid-pound!
